Relay For Life of Berkshire County, Toon Out Cancer
June 21 - June 22
The Relay For Life of Berkshire County, Toon Out Cancer, will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 21-22, 2019 at the Monument Mountain Regional High School, 600 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington, MA.
The “Toon” name in the title will be reflected in decorations and costumes that represent this year’s cartoon theme.
Team members take turns walking around a track or other designated course. A requirement is that each team has a member walking at all times.
Money is raised by teams who solicit donations from individuals and businesses. There are a number of fundraising options some of which continue year round.
Although the time spans may vary (anywhere from six to 24 hours), the schedule for all of the Relay for Life events pretty much follows a standard format. Relays include an Opening Ceremony followed by the Survivors Lap, the Caregivers Lap, the Luminaria Ceremony and Closing Ceremony.
Additional activities during the Berkshire Relay will include Survivor Dinner, Paint and Sip (non-alcoholic), pancake breakfast, Clog Dancers, Movie at Midnight, Blues Band, theme laps and fundraising around the track.

Relay For Life started in 1985 when Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt walked/ran for 24 hours on a track in Tacoma, Washington to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society.
Today teams raise funds at over 3,500 Relay events nationwide.
Proceeds from Relay For Life events “help the American Cancer Society fund ground-breaking cancer research, crucial patient care services, and prevention and early detection programs.”
