Hillacious Half

The Hillacious Half will kick off Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021 at  the Morgan-Weir American Legion Post 27, 400 Bantam Road, Litchfield, CT.

The H½ was created to honor our military, to thank them and let them know that their sacrifices are not unnoticed or taken for granted. The event is organized by Beth Murphy.

This course is extremely tough – to represent the efforts that our military make for us every day and often far away from their loved ones.

The  4th annual 13.1 mile race is open to individuals and two-person relay teams.

Buy a mile marker for $25 which will bear the name of someone you choose who is currently serving or has served in the military. The race begins and ends at the Legion Post. The second- leg members of the relay teams will be bused to the halfway point and first-leggers will be bused back to the starting point.

No pets, or wheels are allowed.

The entry fee for individuals is $50 per person and $100 per team.

Race day entry fees are $60 and $120.

For an additional $10, both runners and non-runners can buy a dog tag with name of a service man or woman, presently serving or a veteran. Wear it during the race and keep it as a participation memento. Call Beth Murphy  at (860) 459-8596 about dog tag details.

Here is what organizers have to say about this year’s race:

“HH 2020 is on! We will have a staggered start with a starting mat. Runners will start in groups of ten. The starting group number will be written on the bib.

THERE WILL BE NO DAY OF REGISTRATION! The last opportunity to register will be at the Friday night Expo, 11/13, at the Legion in the upstairs hall from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Runner packets may be picked up then as well.

Be sure to have a mask with you; no need to run in your mask but you will need it when you are not on the course. There will be no access to inside bathrooms; port o pots only with several hand washing stations and plenty of hand sanitizer available.

Sadly there will be no award ceremony and no party. But each runner will be provided with a take home box of food and a beverage. Runners will pick that up on their way back to their cars after finishing the race. Awards will be mailed.

ALL PARKING will be across the street — in the Litchfield Auction parking lot and the Litchfield Community Center (if there is room there.) Please cross the street where the crossing guards will be set up.

Will keep the updates coming. In the meantime, stay safe, train well and run hills! Be sure to scroll down for important info on runner shirts, dog tags, mile marker purchase and our incredible Wall of Honor!

The H½ was created to honor our military, to thank them and let them know that their sacrifices are not unnoticed or taken for granted.

This course is extremely tough – to represent the efforts that our military make for us every day and often far away from their loved ones.

4 water stops on course; every runner gets a ticket for a beer (age appropriate) and a hot sandwich. Stick around for the party; live music, roaring fireplace and great people.

This race does not offer prize money. This is a bare bones race for those with the determination, grit and wherewithal to get it done; to run those 13.1 miles for your own satisfaction and to keep in the public eye the extreme nature of what it means to serve our Country. No frills, just sweat. You’ll dig deep for this course; but there will be beer.

Both the male and female 1st place finisher will have their names engraved on the perpetual trophy that will remain housed in our Morgan-Weir American Legion Post 27 here in Litchfield.”

All proceeds after race expenses are kept  in a fund for any military person or family in our general locality that needs a helping hand. Funds are only distributed through the H½; no monies are paid to any agencies such as Wounded Warrior or Disabled American Veterans.
