Million Mile 2019

The Million Mile 2019 will take place from September 1 through September 30, 2019. This is a virtual event, so people can participate wherever they live.

The Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer (ALSF) is the organizer of this event which coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The event is presented by Volvo,  and Aldi is the gold sponsor.

Participants are asked to keep track of the miles they log during the month of September by walking, jogging, running, biking or however they choose to move. They are encouraged to fundraise –  asking friends, family and coworkers to contribute for each mile logged.

The goal is to log a total of 1 million miles during the month.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is named after Alexandra “Alex” Scott who was born in 1996. Before her first birthday, Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer. She endured years of treatment and hospital stays. At age four she said, “When I get out of the hospital, I want to have a lemonade stand”, to raise money, not for herself, but so doctors could “help other kids like they helped me.”

With her family’s help, Alex’s lemonade stand raised $2,000 that first year. Word of Alex’s story spread, spawning  lemonade stands around the country.

Alex passed away in 2004 at eight years old. The movement she started raised $1 million dollars .

Today, the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation continues the work she started.
