The 1st Annual Archie Barney Memorial Golf Tournament with a Twist will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Canaan Country Club, Canaan, CT.

The tournament is a nine-hole, three-club, four-person, scramble- format event.

The tournament honors Archie Barney, a long time fixture at the club who endeared himself to everyone with his quirky personality, his zany sense of humor and his offbeat observations.

The tournament is meant to capture some of Archie’s on-course persona.

Many may remember that Archie would often go out on the course equipped with only a DRIVER and play a full 9 holes. You might also recall that he would often hit approach shots from as much as 50 yards off the green with a PUTTER.

So for Archie’s tournament, each golfer will be allowed a maximum of 3 clubs, of their choosing. Driver, 8 iron, putter? 3 wood, rescue club, wedge? You choose – but only 3, and you can’t use your teammates clubs.

Make up your own 4-some if you choose or we can match you up. If you are a single, we will try to match you up.

Tee off is 10:00 am.

Cost per golfer, including food, will be $60 which includes green fees a barbecue lunch, prizes, and a raffle. You can pay your entry fee morning of the tournament.

The club will donate 50% of the entry fees to a new scholarship fund in Archie’s name, which will help young golfers participate in the sport. Golf can be an expensive sport and finding a way to encourage junior golfers is something Archie would be supportive of.
