Shine On 5K

The Shine On 5K will be held Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Lewis Mills High School, 26 Lyon Road, Burlington, CT 06013.

This is the 9th annual running of this USATF certified race which runs on a mostly level course with some rolling hills on town roads.

Entry fees:

5K Run and 5K walk  $20

1 Mile Kids Run  $15

1/4 Mile Dolphin Dash  Free

For race day registration add $5.

All pre-registrants receive a T shirt. Upgrades to dri-fit shirt additional $10.

The Shine On 5K honors the life of Karen DuCotey, a beloved teacher at Lake Garda School who passed away in 2010. The Karen DuCotey Fund for Kids was established in 2011 as an immediate response support for students in the Region 10 School District.

Northwest CT Rod & Gun Club Junior Fishing Derby

The Northwest CT Rod & Gun Club Junior Fishing Derby will be held Sunday,  May 19, 2019 at the NW CT Rod & Gun Club, 148 South Canaan Road, Canaan, CT 06018.

The Derby is a free event for all children 16 years old and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please provide your own fishing equipment.

No lures allowed, but bait will be provided by Jim’s Bait and Tackle.

A new bicycle will be awarded to the fisherperson, male and female with the longest fish in each of three age categories- 0 – 5 years old; 6 – 11 and 12 – 16. All participants will receive a free raffle gift. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers available free to the children and for sale to adults.

There will be no pre-registration,  but you must register Derby Day.

The Derby day schedule at the Club’s trout-stocked, one- acre pond is as follows:

8:30 am    Sign up

9:00 am  Fishing begins

Noon-    Fishing competition ends.

The Derby provides youngsters with a great opportunity to hone their fishing skills in friendly competition.

Steel Rail Half Marathon and 8K

The Steel Rail Half Marathon and 8K will be held Sunday, May 19, 2019. The half marathon will start at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesboro , MA and end at the Visitors center in Adams, MA. The 8K will begin 8K back from the Half Marathon route end and also finish at the Visitors Center. Got that?

Parking will be at the Berkshire Mall parking lot at J.C. Penny’s. The 8K parking will be at the Cheshire Elementary School, Cheshire Town garage and on-street parking.

Buses will take runners’ belongings to the finish line as well as schlep participants back to the Berkshire Mall after the award ceremonies.

The registration is as complicated as the parking.

Registration is limited to the first 1,000 entrants and 300 for the 8K.

$65 half, $30 8K  by Feb. 28th

$75 half,  $35 8K  Mar 1st – Apr. 30th

$85 half, $40 8K  May 1st – May 16th

Tech short-sleeved shirts to everyone (both races) who register by April  15th.

All 8K runners get short sleeved T shirt if registered by April 15th.

8:30 am – 9:30 am at the Ashuwillticook Trail Head 8K packet pickup

10:00 am  8K begins

Custom medals to all half marathon finishers. For all finishers  one free Berkshire  Brewing Co beer (with ID); $3 food voucher and music after the races.

Half marathon awards to overall male and female top three places and top three finishers in each of seven age categories.

8K awards to overall male and female top three places and top three in each of seven age categories.

A portion of the race proceeds will benefit maintenance and expansion of the Ashuwillticook Rail trail.

$46,000 has been raised over the past six years.
