Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club Turkey Shoot

The Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club Turkey Shoot will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019 at the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club, 148 South Canaan Rd (Route 7), Canaan, CT 06018.

No folks, we’re not shootin turkeys here. We are shooting at paper targets where the best marksmen and women can win cash and other prizes. This is a family event – children can participate if accompanied by an adult.

There is no pre-registration, just show up shoot morning to sign up.

This is a shotgun-only shoot for 410, 20, 16 and 12 gauge shotguns. Participants should bring their own firearms, but there is a “Club 20 gauge shotgun” available.

The entry fee is $3 per person, per round, which includes ammunition. Each shooter gets one shot per round. There will be 10 rounds.

The competition requires shooting at a half dollar-sized paper target from a distance of 90 feet. The shot with a puncture closest to the cross-hairs on the target wins the round.

The Turkey Shoot is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine- only the most extreme weather conditions will cause cancellation.

The shoot day schedule is as follows:

10:00 am   Registration

11:00 am  Shoot begins

Prizes are  awarded after each round.

This is the first Turkey Shoot in a six event series held on consecutive Sundays. The next events will be Oct. 27th, Nov. 3rd, Nov. 10th, Nov. 17th and Nov. 24th.

The Nov, 24th Shoot will include an hour-long shoot for the local Cub Scouts.

The shoots are a major fundraiser for the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club. All proceeds from the events will help fund the Club’s programs.

Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club 3 D Archery Shoots

The Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club 3 D Archery Shoots will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Club’s property at 148 South Canaan Road (Route 7), Canaan, CT 06018. There will be two additional Archery Shoots, Sunday, June 16th and Sunday, September 15th.

Adults and children welcome.

Bring your own archery equipment.

No crossbows allowed.

Arrows  must have field points, no razor points allowed.

Entry fee is $10 per person.

There is no pre-registration, just register event morning between 7:00 am – Noon.

Registrants will have three distance options to choose from:

Beginner –  10 yards

Intermediate – 20 yards

Expert –  25 yards

Targets will be a variety of free-standing 3-dimensional animals including deer, turkeys, antelope  and alligators (yes, alligators).

There will be prizes for the winner of each division.

Bill Solan 11th Annual Ice Fishing Derby

The Bill Solan 11th Annual Ice- Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at O’Hara’s Landing, Twin Lakes, Salisbury, CT.

The event is sponsored by the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club.

The entry fee is $20 per person in advance and $25 day of the event.

All participants must have a valid fishing license.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Contestants are asked to bring their own bait, lunch and beverages.

Event Day Schedule:

7:00 am Sign up

8:00 am Derby begins

1:00 pm Derby ends

Prizes to the three biggest fish by weight. Cash prizes will equal 50% of the entry fees.

Door prizes and raffle after the Derby.

Proceeds from the Derby will help fund the Club’s land improvement program.

Housy Soccer Women Rock

Fun and important events coming this weekend.

Saturday, October 27th at the Housatonic Valley Regional High school soccer field. The Housy alumni women will square off in a soccer match to help one of their own. Proceeds from the event will benefit Terry Roy and her daughter Nicole who suffered a catastrophic house fire last week in Lakeville, CT. The house at last report may be salvageable, but they lost all of their belongings including three dogs. Terry and Nicole both played soccer during their Housy years. $10 entry fee for alumni to play, admission to watch is free. There will be food for sale and a raffle. Come and support the very best of causes-10:00 – 11:00 am.

NOTICE: The Housy Alumni  soccer game has been postponed because of the incoming storm. Stay tuned for the new date.

 

Also over the weekend, there will be four Halloween-themed running events.

Saturday- The Fairview Hospital 14th Annual Monster Dash 5K in Great Barrington , MA.

The Vassar College Halloween 5K Fun Run, held completely on Vassar’s campus and perfect for the little ones in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Sunday- The Burlington 9th Annual 5K Run/Walk with Harvest Fest afterward in Burlington, CT.

And the 42nd Annual Kent Pumpkin Run 5 Miler with mile and 1/2 mile kids runs. This is a big one that caps out at 1,000 entries, in Kent, CT.

All for runs strongly encourage costumes!

To round out this weekend of diverse activities will be the Tour de Forest bicycle ride in Norfolk, and both a rifle match and turkey shoot at the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club in Canaan, CT.

The Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club Scholarship Turkey Shoot will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club, 148 South Canaan Rd (Route 7), Canaan, CT.

This target shoot competition is open to everyone, and the best marksmen and women can win turkeys and other prizes. This is a family event – children can participate if accompanied by an adult.

There is no pre-registration, just show up shoot morning to sign up.

Prizes are  awarded after each round.

The 5th, 7th and 10th rounds are cash award rounds. The others are turkey rounds.

This  shoot is one of several held throughout the year by the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Club’s scholarship fund .
