The Angel in the Infield 7th Annual Softball Tournament
The Angel in the Infield 7th Annual Softball Tournament, in memory of Keri Perotti, will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th, 2019 at Lawrence and Segalla fields in Canaan, CT, 06018.
The tournament will be a 2-day, round-robin style co-ed tournament. Each team must have four females.
The event is limited to the first 10 teams to register and submit payment. The fee is $200 per team, non refundable and due by April 20th. The tournament is held in honor of Keri Perotti, a beloved member of the Canaan community, who passed away in an automobile accident at 21 years old. The softball tournament reflects Keri’s love of sports.
All funds raised throughout the tournament will go toward a scholarship fund in memory of Keri, which gifts two $1,000 scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors. Information will be available at the field during the tournament.

The Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club Scholarship Turkey Shoot
The Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club Scholarship Turkey Shoot will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club, 148 South Canaan Rd (Route 7), Canaan, CT.
This target shoot competition is open to everyone, and the best marksmen and women can win turkeys and other prizes. This is a family event – children can participate if accompanied by an adult.
There is no pre-registration, just show up shoot morning to sign up.
This is a shotgun-only shoot for 410, 20, 16 and 12 gauge shotguns. Participants should bring their own firearms, but there is a “Club 20 gauge shotgun” available.
The entry fee is $3 per person, per round, which includes ammunition. Each shooter gets one shot per round. There will be at least 10 rounds.
The competition requires shooting at a half dollar-sized paper target from a distance of 90 feet. The shot with a puncture closest to the cross-hairs on the target wins the round.
The ScholarshipTurkey Shoot is an outdoor event and will be held rain or shine- only the most extreme weather conditions will cause cancellation.
The shoot day schedule is as follows:

11:00 am Shoot begins
Prizes are awarded after each round.
The 5th, 7th and 10th rounds are cash award rounds. The others are turkey rounds.
This shoot is one of several held throughout the year by the Northwest CT Rod and Gun Club. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Club’s scholarship fund .

Canaan Railroad Days
The Canaan Railroad Days Run ( formerly known as the Canaan 5 Mile Road Race) will be held on Sunday July 16, 2017 at the Lawrence Pavilion in Canaan, CT.
The 5 mile race will both begin and end at the pavilion. There will also be a 2 mile walk and a 1 mile children’s run.
The online entry fee for the event is $20 for adult runners and walkers 13 years and older and $10 for children 12 and under for the Kid’s Run. Participants who pre-register before midnight, July 6th will receive a T-shirt. Registration fee increases $5 after July 6th.
Timing will be provided by greystoneracing.
Race day schedule is as follows:
8:00 am Registration and Number pick up
9:00 am Race begins, Kids Run starts shortly thereafter.
Awards and refreshments after race.
Awards will be bestowed upon the top overall male and female as well as the top male and female in 8 age categories. Winners must be present to receive awards.
The Canaan Railroad Days Run is the second race in the Grand Prix series. The first is the WYLD Obstacle Run (June 24th); the Stronger Women. Stronger World (Aug. 5th); the Highland Lake 10K (Oct. 7th) and the Zombie Chase Challenge (Nov. 4th). Go to the Running/Walking Calendar to learn more about these races.
