Run for the Hills 9th Annual 10K  5K and 1K Fun Run

The Run for the Hills 9th Annual 10K  5K and 1K Fun Run will be held Sunday, October 6,  2019, at Bard College at Simon’s Rock, 84 Alford Road, Great Barrington, MA.

The run will consist of three races, a 10K, a 5K and a free 1K kid’s Fun Run. The races will begin at or near Simon’s Rock’s Kilpatrick Athletic Center. Each will start at a different time (see schedule below).

The entry fee for the 10K and 5K races is $25 for adults over 18 years old and $15  for youths 18 years old and under. The 1K fun run is free. Go to to register online or find mail-in forms.

T-shirts will be given to the first 150 registrants as well as all of the volunteers.

The race day schedule is as follows:

8 – 9 am  Check in, final registration (ends at 9 sharp).

9:20 am  10K race begins at Kilpatrick Athletic Center

9:40 am  5K race begins near Seekonk Veterinary Clinic

10:30 am (estimated)  1K Fun Run begins at entrance to Kilpatrick Athletic Center

Awards and refreshments following event.

The event will recognize eight age categories both male and female.

Proceeds from the races will benefit the Great Barrington Land Conservancy, “supporting land conservation, farms preservation and community trails.” For more information, visit

Murphy Open

The Murphy Open, the tournament where “the only rule is that there are no rules” tees off for the 24th year Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Egremont Country Club in South Egremont, MA.

Cost for the 18 hole, four-person scramble format event is $125 per person which includes lunch, cart, green fees, tournament prizes, on-course contests and a post tournament buffet. There is a $480 per team price if pre-registered by June 1st.

Men’s, women’s and mixed teams welcome. No Professionals please.

New This Year: MURPHY OPEN FASHION SHOW, inspired by Murphy Open founder Fred Stevenson who has, for decades, sported his Payne Stewart-esque outfit. This will be a pay-to-enter event ($10) on the day for registered golfers only  which benefits the Bargain Barn in Sharon, CT. The show is sponsored by and the Bargain Barn of Sharon.

There will be awards for 1st place and prize money for first, second and third place teams regardless of category for 1st place men’s, women’s and mixed teams as well fun last place and slowest team awards.

Contests include closest to the pin, longest drive,  closest to the line and many hole-in-one opportunities sponsored by WHDD Robin Hood Radio. Golfers can also bid on prizes in a Chinese raffle which is supported by businesses throughout the Tri-State region, and will be  offered during registration and lunch. A silent auction will run all day with a larger prize package anchored by Herrington’s  .

Tournament day schedule is as follows:

11:00 am Registration and lunch (cooked-to-order burgers and dogs)

12:00 noon Shotgun start

Awards, Chinese  Raffle, silent auction winner reveal, and slider buffet immediately following tournament.

Proceeds from the Tournament will benefit local VFW and American Legion Posts.

The Murphy Open was organized to honor the life of William “Murph” Mayberry.
