Special Olympics NY Summer Games Canceled

Special Olympics NY Summer Games  scheduled for Friday and Saturday June 12 and 13, 2020 have been canceled.

“Dear Special Olympics New York community,

With guidance from Special Olympics International and in alignment with New York State limits on large public gatherings, we have suspended all training and competition through the end of May 2020. Regretfully, this means we have had to cancel State Summer Games, previously scheduled for June 12-13 in Dutchess County. As you know, athletes must participate in a full season and begin training before they can safely compete.

We understand how disappointing this news is. We are deeply disappointed as well. However, we are not willing to compromise the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and fans – and that is something I know you will understand.

We are in this together and we will come out of this together.

While we can’t have Summer Games this year, we are committed to connecting everyone virtually and I am personally committed to hosting the biggest virtual dance party Special Olympics athletes have ever seen!

In the meantime, I have enjoyed seeing so many of you online as part of our virtual program. See you again soon.”

Sincerely,
Stacey Hengsterman, President & CEO of Special Olympics New York
